Spot silver dived more than 5 percent to $29.39 an ounce, its lowest since Feb. 8, extending a drop of 13 percent in the previous session, continuing a broad sell-off in precious metals.

Cardamom futures extended downtrend at the weekend on profit booking by the speculators amid sluggish demand in the local markets. Higher arrivals from the producing regions also limited the gains. 

At MCX Cardamom September contract today closed at Rs.786 per Kg, lower by 0.41% against the previous close. In the morning session the contract traded at a range of Rs.775-789 per Kg. Open interest of the contract stood at 2568 and volume traded is 1924 Kg.

Gulf demand is also expected to remain subdued as Ramadan has started and most of the labours will be on holidays. This might further add to the down side. 

According to Spices board of India, total arrivals during the current season from Aug 1st week to July 17th were up by 24% to 12,556 tons against 10,160 tons in the same period last year.
